Raybestos® Products Propel Denny Hamlin to Victory at Pocono
Victory is the Third for Hamlin in Eight Career Starts at the Pennsylvania Track
McHenry, IL —

2009
- Danny Hamlin had no problem waiting out the Pennsylvania rain that rolled through Pocono on Sunday. In fact, for the chance to race at the track where the driver of the No. 11 Toyota had already collected two career wins, he would have gladly waited as long as necessary. As it turned out, Hamlin only had to wait until Monday afternoon to win the Pennsylvania 500 in thrilling fashion at the 2.5 mile Tri-Oval Pocono Raceway.
After edging Juan Pablo Montoya by a mere .869 seconds for his first victory since Martinsville Speedway in 2008, Hamlin celebrated his third victory in eight career starts at Pocono – a victory that has positioned him in fifth place in the Chase Standings.
The win was also the fifth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory of the season for the Joe Gibbs Racing Team. Once again every Joe Gibbs Toyota used the complete Raybestos® brand Sprint Cup braking system to successfully navigate a track notorious for tricky braking conditions.
“That tricky, triangular layout will present a lot of problems if you’re not careful,” said Jimmy Makar, Senior Vice President of Racing Operations for Joe Gibbs Racing. “The brakes on the No. 11 responded perfectly all afternoon and proved to be a must-have on a track like this.”
The Raybestos® Sprint Cup braking system that Hamlin utilized to win at Pocono features ultra-lightweight aluminum alloy six-piston calipers - the stiffest and lightest calipers available in all of NASCAR. The innovative calipers were developed using Raybestos technology partner Alcon’s state of the art “optimized design” process, and include an asymmetric body design and advanced between-piston and crossover cooling features. The new Raybestos® Short Track brake package also provides for the largest brake pad volume (surface area) and largest rotor (13.15” outside diameter, and 1.65” thick) available in NASCAR.
